East Village is not a traditional opera company. The 11-member band performs famous arias by such venerated composers as Puccini, Verdi, Purcell and Bizet through a musical consciousness nurtured on Led Zeppelin and Metallica. The group rearranges opera arias and overtures to add electric guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and leather pants. The result is a hybrid of 70s' arena rock and classical music. Tickets for the East Village Opera Company at Miller Auditorium range from $15 to $35 and are available by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858, online at www.millerauditorium.com or by visiting the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office or the Epic Center Box Office in downtown Kalamazoo. Groups of 20 or more should call (269) 387-2312 for special discounts. The East Village Opera Company at Miller Auditorium is sponsored by Coca-Cola.
