Bobby Davidson honored at Swing Band concert

Nov. 13, 2006

KALAMAZOO--The 24th annual "Tribute to the Great Swing Bands" is Friday, Nov. 17, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University. Tickets are $10 and are available through the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office and at the door. Students and senior citizens will be admitted for $5.

The University Jazz Orchestra and University Jazz Lab Band will honor the Bobby Davidson Orchestra with selections picked by Davidson from his vast library. The Bobby Davidson Orchestra was a mainstay for big band jazz in Kalamazoo, and throughout the Midwest, from the late 1940s into the 1980s. Bobby and Helen Davidson and former members of the band are expected for Friday's concert.

WMU Professors of Music Trent Kynaston and Tom Knific direct the University Jazz Orchestra and University Jazz Lab Band, respectively.
