WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Reitz named to Academic All-American First TeamMarch 15, 2007 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University men's basketball standout Joe Reitz was named a First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American. A junior from Fishers, Ind., Reitz is majoring in finance and maintaining a 3.73 grade point average. Each of the past two seasons, he also was named to the Academic All-District First Team and to the academic all-conference team. Reitz is the fourth student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors in the history of WMU men's basketball and the first to be named to the first team. He is only the seventh player ever from a Mid-American Conference school to make the first team. During his junior season, Reitz averaged 13.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while shooting .560 from the field. He ranked third in the conference in rebounding, eighth in field goal percentage and 12th in scoring, and was named to the All-MAC second team for the second straight season.
