Free dinner-lecture features 'Jihad in Islam'

Oct. 11, 2007

KALAMAZOO--"Jihad in Islam," a presentation by guest speaker Dr. M. Cherif Bassiouni, headlines the ninth semiannual Muslim Student Night program beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in the Bernhard Center Ballroom at Western Michigan University.

A question-and-answer session will follow the speech given by Bassiouni, a distinguished research professor of law at DePaul University College of Law and president emeritus of the International Human Rights Law Institute.

The evening also includes a free, buffet-style dinner featuring multicultural cuisine, an exhibition of artifacts from around the world and musical performances by the English a cappella group Shaam.

The event is open to the public free of charge, but seating is limited and advanced reservations are required. The initial deadline for registration is Sunday, Oct. 21, but a waiting list will be kept. To register, visit www.rso.wmich.edu/msa.

The program, sponsored by the WMU Muslim Students Association and the Arab Student Association, is intended to promote dialogue and greater understanding among people of diverse backgrounds. The event routinely draws capacity crowds of 400 people.
