City commission candidates coming to campus

KALAMAZOO--Candidates for Kalamazoo City Commission will meet in a series of candidate forums this month, including one in the Fetzer Center at Western Michigan University at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Veteran news reporter Gordon Evans of public radio station WMUK will moderate the forum at WMU, which is sponsored by the Western Student Association and the WMU Institute of Government and Politics.

According to information published in the Kalamazoo Gazette, at least five forums for city commission candidates will be held between now and the Nov. 6 election.

Thursday, Oct. 11, 7 p.m., in the Epic Center's Wellspring Theatre, 359 S. Kalamazoo Mall, sponsored by the Downtown Retailers Association and Downtown Kalamazoo Restaurant Association.

Tuesday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m., Northside Association for Community Development, 612 N. Park St., sponsored by several neighborhood associations.

Thursday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m., Theo & Stacy's Restaurant, 5225 Portage Rd., sponsored by the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m., Fetzer Center, Western Michigan University, sponsored by WMU's Institute for Government and Politics and the Western Student Association.

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m., Bronson Park, sponsored by the Kalamazoo Homeless Action Network.
