Roger R. Urich, Western Michigan University associate professor emeritus of engineering technology, died Oct. 21 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Mich. He was 71.
Urich joined the WMU faculty as an assistant professor of metallurgy and metal casting in 1967 and retired in 1992.
During his career, he served as industrial engineering advisor as well as coordinator of engineering cooperative education. He also was active in several professional associations and served a term as chair of the West Michigan Chapter of the American Society for Metals.
Prior to coming to WMU, Urich worked in industry in such roles as company technical director, metallurgical laboratory supervisor and metallurgist.
The Ishpeming, Mich., native served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the late 1950s. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Michigan Technological University in 1961 and 1964, respectively.
