Survey seeks student opinion on living wage

Nov. 25, 2007

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University officials are encouraging students to participate in a brief, eight-question survey about living wage and WMU policy.

The survey can be completed in one minute and will remain available until Friday, Dec. 7. Access to the survey requires a valid student BroncoNet ID and password. Only current WMU students will be able to access the survey, and each student can respond to the survey only once. The survey is completely confidential; answers to survey questions will not be linked to individual students in any way.

"The University has been asked to consider adopting a policy whereby we would require all contractors who perform work for WMU using non-University employees to pay their employees a living wage," says Dr. Diane Anderson, vice president for student affairs. "The students who are proposing this policy define a living wage as $9.50 per hour with benefits and $11.50 per hour without benefits."

Login to the Living Wage Survey, requires a valid student BroncoNet ID and password.

Students also may access the survey through GoWMU, the University's secure intranet portal, by checking the message "Survey seeks student opinion on living wage" in the Individualized Announcement channel on the GoWMU Student Home tab.
