Student-supported fee increase approved by trusteesMay 6, 2008 KALAMAZOO--An increase in Western Michigan University's student assessment fee, heavily supported by students in a recent campuswide vote, was approved by the WMU Board of Trustees at its May 2 meeting. The fee will go from $12 to $21 per semester and from $6 to $10.50 per summer session. The increase and a redistribution of SAF revenues were approved by 65 percent of students who voted on the measure March 18-21. SAF dollars are allocated to student organizations to support programmatic initiatives that enhance student learning and contribute to an inclusive, vibrant campus community. As part of the proposal, the SAF distribution structure will be reviewed annually and amended as appropriate. The review will be conducted by a committee convened by Student Activities and Leadership Programs and the leadership of student agencies.
