Trustees approve eight retirements

KALAMAZOO--The retirements of four faculty members and four staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its June 13 meeting. Trustees also accepted the resignations of two faculty members.

All of the faculty members who are retiring are doing so with faculty emeritus status. Their names, positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement are: Dr. William "Arnie" Johnston, professor of English and former English department chair, who also is being granted the title of chair emeritus of English, 40 years, effective June 30, 2008; Gwendolyn Nagle, professor of theatre, 18-1/2 years, effective April 30, 2009; Dr. Janet I. Pisaneschi, professor of speech pathology and audiology, provost in 2006-07, and former dean of the College of Health and Human Services, who has been taking a year's annual leave and also is being granted the title of dean emerita of health and human services, 19 years, effective June 30, 2008; and Dr. Judith J. Sadler, associate professor of nursing, 10-1/2 years, effective April 28 2009.

The staff members retiring are: Willard E. Breur, stock clerk in physical plant-logistical services, 32 years, effective June 30, 2008; William D. Cochran, millwright in physical plant-maintenance services, 30-1/2 years, effective June 30, 2008; Margo A. Kellogg, data entry operator in development, 23 years, effective Aug. 31, 2008; Daniel Tinkler, operating engineer in physical plant-power plant, 22-1/2 years, effective Sept. 30, 2008.

The faculty members resigning are: Anthony Calucci, assistant professor of dance, effective Aug. 10, 2008, and Dr. Laura B. Citrin, assistant professor of sociology, effective Aug. 29, 2008.
