2008 Air Race Classic 'flight log'

June 30, 2008

by Meghan Burlager and Betsy Taylor

MANSFIELD, Mass.--Last night, we had our awards banquet in Mansfield. We ended up getting second place in the Collegiate Challenge and 11th place overall, which is pretty darn good for first timers, especially when you consider the experience the other ladies have.

We were only one place off from finishing in the top 10 and getting to keep an awesome medal, but we'll take what we got, considering the bad handicap for the Cirrus [plane]. We did win three "leg" medals for having the best times between certain airports. We beat our mother birds by two spots, which is a big no-no!

We got up this morning to head home, but after a few glitches we ended up having to stay on the ground because of the giant line of thunderstorms coming our way and others that were constantly building. We were a little disappointed since we've been away from home for such a long time, but one more night isn't going to kill us.

We're heading off to get some sleep so we can get up early to beat the late afternoon storms and get home quickly.

Thanks to everyone back home for giving us so much love and support. We greatly appreciate it and we love all of you!
