Golf outing supports graduate coaching assistant

Sept. 17, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's golf team has established an ambitious goal of raising $20,000 through its Par Buster golf outing at the Moors Golf Club Monday, Sept. 22.

Funds raised will be put toward a paid graduate assistant golf coaching position. Now entering its 11th season as a WMU varsity sport, the team has relied on volunteer assistant coaches, including former Bronco standout Laura Bavaird, who is serving as an assistant this fall. In August, Bavaird defended her title at the 92nd Michigan Women's Amateur.

Registration at the Moors opens at 11 a.m. Monday, followed by lunch and a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.

A full range of sponsorship opportunities is available. The per-person entry fee of $125 includes golf, gifts, lunch and a 19th hole party afterward. To register or to find out about remaining sponsorship opportunities, contact Stacy Vallier at stacy.vallier@wmich.edu or (269) 387-3062.

The Broncos' head coach is PGA professional Cindy Trout, who has coached the team since its inception in 1998-99. She can be reached at cindy.trout@wmich.edu.
