Symphonic Band offers "Tributes" concert

KALAMAZOO--The Western Michigan University Symphonic Band will present "Tributes," a concert of works which have been dedicated to other musicians by noted composers Aaron Copland, William Schuman and Richard Wagner at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, in Miller Auditorium.

New tributes by Steven Bryant and Andrew Boysen will round out the program, which is open to the public free of charge.

The University Symphonic Band is dedicated to the outstanding performance of significant wind band literature. The ensemble maintains an active performance schedule on and off campus. In recent years, the Symphonic Band has appeared at Cobo Hall in Detroit and at national and divisional conference meetings of the College Band Directors National Association. In addition, the band has performed in major concert halls in the People's Republic of China. The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Robert Spradling, director of bands.
