International group calls for papers

Oct. 9, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University invites all faculty and staff to submit papers for the 39th International Conference, which will be held at the Fetzer Center June 3-7, 2009.

April 15, 2009, is the deadline to submit papers for the conference, which is titled "Civilization (Cultures) in a Time of Crisis and Change" and is being sponsored by the International Society for the Comparative Study of Civilizations.

"These past few weeks we've been seeing very strong signals of economic turmoil on a global basis," says ISCSC President Andrew S. Targowski, WMU professor of business information systems. "So the conference deals with actual issues."

The conference will explore historic precedents in responding to crisis and change as well as cover such topics as Poverty, Population Demographics, Global Economic Growth/Chaos, Societal Breakdown, Epidemics, Climate Change, Depletion of Natural Resources, and Political Destabilization as Reflected in Terrorism and Warfare.
