Nov. 19, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's student-run radio station, WIDR 89.1 FM, presents singer, songwriter and activist Joe Reilly in concert with fellow musicians Sunday, Nov. 23, at Dino's Coffee Shop, 773 W. Michigan Ave., in Kalamazoo.

Admission is $5 at the door. The show begins at 8 p.m.

Co-sponsored by student organizations Kalamazoo Collective Housing and the Peace Center, the concert is meant to bring awareness to the themes of environmental action and struggles for social justice. It is being held in conjunction with peace demonstrations in Fort Benning, Ga.

A Kalamazoo native, Reilly has been a singer, songwriter and guitarist for more than 12 years. He performs around the nation, incorporating diverse musical, academic and religious influences into his music. His sound has been described as "an acoustic mix of folk, blues and hip-hop influences, with lyrics that are spirited, compassionate and life-affirming" (News From Indian Country), with lyrics that convey messages of peace and hope.
