Lloyd BraithwaiteDec. 1, 2008 Dr. Lloyd Braithwaite, a retired professor of criminology at Western Michigan University for more than two decades, died Oct. 23. Braithwaite, who had been living and teaching in England since 1989, was 80. Born in Chicago, he was a pharmacist's mate in the Navy in 1945 and 1946. He earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of California at Berkeley. While living in California he worked as a probation, parole and corrections officer. After a stint as an instructor at the Institute of Criminology at Indiana State, he joined the sociology faculty at WMU in 1968 and retired in 1989.
