Gathering planned for WMU's military veteransFeb. 6, 2009 KALAMAZOO--The Military and Veterans Student Association at Western Michigan University has scheduled an informational "Meet & Greet" from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the Wesley Center on the University's main campus. Students and faculty members who are veterans or in the military are invited to stop in and meet members of the association, talk with veteran services professionals and enjoy light refreshments. On hand to answer questions about the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization will be members of VFW Post 827. Also on hand will be university advocate Gerry Schma from WMU's Advocacy Office for Transfer Student and Military Affairs. In addition, Mick Hornev from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Battle Creek Medical Center will be at the gathering after 5 p.m. Hornev, transition patient advocate for Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom, will be available to help attendees with any Veterans Affairs issues they may have. The Military and Veterans Student Association has issued a special invitation for WMU faculty and staff who are veterans to attend the event as a way to build a campus network of fellow veterans.
