Georgia C. (Kerby) Bryan

April 20, 2009

Georgia C. (Kerby) Bryan, a staff member at Western Michigan University for more than three decades, died April 10 in Kalamazoo. She was 54.

Bryan came to WMU as a student in 1972 and earned a bachelor's degree in 1980. She began working in the Registrar's Office in 1974 as a transcript clerk in the records unit and was hired full time as that unit's assistant supervisor in 1978.

The Arkansas native was appointed director of registration in 1982. As such, she organized WMU's registration activities as well as coordinated the publication of its course guides and the validation of identification cards for students.

In 2002-03, Bryan was promoted to associate registrar-scheduling. She retired in 2008 after 30-1/2 years of full-time service to the University.

During her tenure, Bryan was closely involved in many important changes that took place in the Registrar's Office. These included the move to the ISIS student information system in 1984 and implementation of touchtone registration in 1987. More recently, she played an integral role in the conversion to the Banner student information system, which went live in summer 2005.

Private services and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Kalamazoo Nature Center or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
