KALAMAZOO--Three master's degree candidates at Western Michigan University have been awarded University Dames Endowed Scholarships.

  • Amanda Marshall, of Plainwell, Mich., is studying philosophy and was awarded $1,500.
  • Amanda Brooks, of Monroe, Mich., is studying anthropology and was awarded $500.
  • Maria Markus, of Kalamazoo, is studying social work and was awarded $500.

The annual University Dames Endowed Scholarship was established in 1996 by the WMU Women's Association and may be applied to tuition, fees and books.

The honor recognizes students enrolled in any of WMU's graduate-degree programs, with preference given to female candidates who have successfully completed 15 credit hours of graduate work.

WMU's Graduate College, which administers the scholarship, expects to announce the nomination procedures and application deadline for next year's round of awards early in 2010.
