KALAMAZOO--Six Western Michigan University faculty members from the Department of Foreign Languages will be a part of a local poetry reading at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Portage District Library.
The event, "Poetry in 15 Languages," will bring together area residents from 15 areas of the world to select a favorite poem that can be one they have written themselves. The audience will have a list of languages and readers, but no translations will be provided.
The reading is sponsored by foreign languages, the library, Michigan Festival of Sacred Music and the Fetzer Institute and is part of a series of art and literature cultural events occurring at the library during the month of November titled, "Convergence: A Coming Together and Letting Go."
WMU faculty members in the event include presenter Cynthia Running-Johnson, department chair, and readers Peter Blickle, German; Hend Ezzat Hegab, Arabic; Viviane Ruellot, French; Rika Saito, Japanese; and Liliya Vansovich, Russian.
