Free concert features music of Monteverdi
Nov. 11, 2009
KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's early-music ensemble, Collegium Musicum, will perform in a free, public concert at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Dalton Center Recital Hall.
The 18 singers and 16 instrumentalists of Collegium Musicum are devoted to the repertory of pre-Classical music--generally anything before the career of W.A. Mozart. The ensemble performs music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque eras.
The Nov. 17 concert, "Mostly Monteverdi: Musical Gems of the Italian Baroque," will include madrigals and ballets of Monteverdi, as well as concerti by Vivaldi and sonatas by Torelli. Featured instruments include viol, harpsichord, chamber organ, cornetto, recorder and baroque flute.
