Faculty research event encourages collaboration

Jan. 11, 2010

KALAMAZOO--An afternoon of discussion and networking regarding research and resources at Western Michigan University is being sponsored by the Office of Vice President for Research Friday, Jan. 22.

The open house event for faculty to learn about funding opportunities and strategies, connect with WMU colleagues and share ideas will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Fetzer Center. Resource stations and roundtable discussions on a variety of topics will offer opportunities to network, learn about others' scholarship and explore potential collaborations.

Resource information topics include compliance tools, internal finding opportunities, connecting with government agencies, technology and transfer commercialization and support from the grants and contracts offices. Interdisciplinary roundtable discussions will focus on faculty collaborations in such areas as sustainable energy, medical-related research, environmental issues, manufacturing, connecting art and science and other ad-hoc topics of faculty interest.

Dr. Daniel Litynski, a veteran researcher and administrator who was named in December as WMU's new vice president for research, and Dr. Paula Kohler, associate vice president for research and the event's organizer, will be on hand to meet participants and discuss research initiatives and resources.

Registration is encouraged to plan for seating and order desserts for the event. For more information or to register, contact Charlotte Kelley at charlotte.kelley@wmich.edu or (269) 387-8205 or visit wmich.edu/research.
