Football schedule and homecoming date announced

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University and the Mid-American Conference have announced the 2010 conference football schedule, confirming Saturday, Oct. 2, for the University's Homecoming game against Idaho.

WMU will open the season against a Big Ten opponent for the seventh time in program history and second time in as many years when the Broncos travel to East Lansing to face Michigan State Sept. 4. WMU will make history Oct. 16 when it visits South Bend, becoming the first MAC school since the conference's inception in 1947 to play Notre Dame.

The Broncos will welcome six teams into Waldo Stadium, where they went 3-2 last season under head coach Bill Cubit. WMU will play versus Nicholls State on CommUniverCity Night, Sept. 11; Toledo Sept. 18; Idaho, winner of the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl, on Homecoming, Oct. 2; Northern Illinois Oct. 30; Eastern Michigan Nov. 13; and Kent State Nov. 20.

WMU will hit the road for half of its MAC West Division games, playing at Ball State Oct. 9, Akron Oct. 23, Central Michigan Nov. 5, and Bowling Green Nov. 26.

The Broncos' games against Central Michigan and Bowling Green are scheduled to air on ESPNU. These are the only two regular-season games that do not take place on a Saturday.
