United Way T-shirts on sale
Oct. 7, 2010
KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University faculty, staff, students and friends can show their support for the campus United Way campaign by purchasing a $7 "Live United" T-shirt.
Each shirt has United Way's "Live United" campaign slogan printed across the front, the Western "W" on the sleeve, and "I don't just wear the shirt, I live it" on the back. T-shirts can be purchased at the Student Recreation Center or by sending in the order form available online at wmich.edu/rec.
Orders must be received by Friday, Oct. 22, and will be filled within approximately two weeks. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card. Proceeds from all WMU T-shirt sales will be donated to the campus United Way fund.
WMU holds a United Way campaign each fall. Contributions go to the Greater Kalamazoo United Way, which works with dozens of local agencies to help struggling individuals and families meet immediate challenges and secure the resources they need to keep moving in a positive direction.
"With unemployment at 13 percent, the need, even in a community as generous as Kalamazoo, is vast," says Dr. Joe Reish, dean of University Libraries and chair of the campus United Way campaign. "Those of us who are able to give have to go above and beyond this year. It's up to us to make sure those who are struggling can provide for themselves and their families, so they can get back to making positive contributions to the community."
This year's fundraising began in September and will continue through Friday, Nov. 5. So far, faculty, staff and retirees have contributed nearly $92,700 in gifts and pledges, bringing the University 34 percent of the way to its $275,000 goal in the first part of the campaign.
Gifts can be made as one-time donations by cash, check or credit card, or as pledges, payable by payroll deduction, credit card or direct billing from United Way. For questions about making a pledge or donation, or to schedule a United Way meeting in your department, contact email@example.com.
