Broadway songstress stars alongside theatre studentsNov. 12, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University Theatre will close out its fall season with "Late Night Broadway," an intimate cabaret-style show featuring Broadway star Donna Lynne Champlin and graduating musical theatre students.
Productions take place at 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 2-4, in Williams Theatre at WMU's Gilmore Theatre Complex. A cash bar is available for all performances. Champlin has performed in a number of Broadway shows, including "Billy Elliot," "Sweeny Todd," "Hollywood Arms" and James Joyce's "The Dead." Her off-Broadway credits include the Obie Award-winning "Dark at the Top of the Stairs" as well as "Flight of the Lawn Chair Man" and "Love Jerry," both of which won New York Musical Theatre's Outstanding Performance award. Champlin has also appeared on various television shows including "Law and Order" and "The View." Her critically acclaimed debut CD, "Old Friends," was voted one of the top 10 vocal albums of 2009, and her one-woman "Finishing the Hat" show has been performed at the legendary Birdland, Ars Nova and Laurie Beechman. Cast and creative team The student cast of "Late Night Broadway" is directed Jay Berkow, WMU associate professor of theatre, and includes: Keith Erik Brown, Andrew Danner, Adelina Feldman-Shultz, Samantha Galvin, Ethan Hedeen, Megan Jacobson, Chas Lowery IV, Sherri Montville, Chelsea Morgan and Sarah Waalkes. The creative team includes Jacquelyn Soule, lighting design; Keith Roelfsema, sound design; and Cole Butcher, stage management. Ticket information General admission seating for "Late Night Broadway" is $20, $15 for senior citizens and WMU employees, and $5 for students. Group discounts are available.
