Beatrice SichelNov. 16, 2010 Beatrice Sichel, former head of circulation for Western Michigan University Libraries, died Nov. 12 in Kalamazoo. She was 76. Sichel, who escaped Nazi Germany as a child, eventually settled in New York. She trained as a chemist at City University of New York and later at Brandeis University. After working for many years as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, she moved to Kalamazoo with her husband Werner Sichel, a longtime WMU economics professor. She earned a master's degree in library science in 1972 and joined the WMU staff in 1974 as head of the Physical Sciences Library. Sichel held that position for 17 years and served an additional nine years as head of the Circulation Department for all WMU Libraries, retiring in May 2001. Services were held Nov. 14 in Kalamazoo.
