Suspect identified, stolen laptop recovered

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University Public Safety officers have identified and questioned a suspect in the theft of a laptop computer and other items from the Bernhard Center computer lab Dec. 9, and the stolen computer has been recovered.

Photo of suspect in theft from WMU computer lab.A security camera photo (left) of the suspect was published in WMU News Dec. 11 and in today's Western Herald, and the suspect was positively identified by several students. The white male suspect is not a WMU student. He has not yet been charged.

This is the second time in the past eight months that a suspect has been identified and stolen property recovered because of security camera photos published in WMU News and other local media. In May, Native-American gloves stolen from a display case in Waldo Library were recovered, and a suspect in the theft was identified and charged with the crime.
