KALAMAZOO-- Western Michigan University's Peter Strazdas was elected to the executive board of an international organization representing educational facilities for a three-year term beginning in July.

Strazdas, WMU's associate vice president of Facilities Management, will serve as secretary-treasurer for the Association of Higher Education Facility Officers.

The international organization promotes excellence in the administration, planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of educational facilities. It serves the entire education community by conducting research, providing learning opportunities, producing publications, developing guidelines, and serving as a central information source on educational facilities issues.

"I am humbled and honored to be selected by my peers and look forward to giving back to the profession in this new capacity," says Strazdas.

Founded in 1914, its membership includes more than 4,800 educational facilities professionals from four-year and two-year colleges and universities. Strazdas will finish his term as Michigan Chapter president for higher education facility officers.

He will be installed as an officer at the organization's 2011 Conference and Exhibition scheduled for July 16-18 in Atlanta along with President-elect Mary Vosevich, director of the physical plant at the University of New Mexico; and Vice President for Professional Affairs David Cain, associate faculty member at Coconino Community College.
