KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's Board of Trustees has approved a three-year labor contract with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.

Acting at their Sept. 28 meeting, trustees signed off on the pact with the union, which represents independent stage workers for major productions at WMU venues, such as Miller Auditorium. The contract covers employees who fill the bulk of the need for part-time professional stage help beyond that provided by the University's permanent staff. The contract was ratified by WMU union members on Sept. 16 and is similar to contracts between the IATSE and other Michigan venues.
