Herma E. Breisach

Dr. Herma E. Breisach, a retired Western Michigan University faculty member, died Oct. 25. She was 85.

Breisach of Kalamazoo joined the WMU faculty in 1967 and retired in 1989 as a professor emerita of University Libraries after 23 years of service to the University. She began her WMU career as a catalog librarian for the University's library system and an instructor. Within a year of her hiring, she was selected to head the system's serials department.

A native of Vienna, Breisach earned a doctoral degree in history from the University of Vienna in 1951 and a Master of Library Science from WMU in 1966. She was a member of the American Library Association and Beta Phi Mu, the International Library Science Honor Fraternity.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Dr. Ernst A. Breisach, WMU professor emeritus of history.

Visitation and funeral

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 W. Lovell St., Kalamazoo. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in St. Luke's.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
