Students who wish to major in social work will be admitted to the pre-social work curriculum at the time of admission to the university. This status, however, does not guarantee admission to the professional social work curriculum. Upon completion of 45 credit hours of college coursework and the course SWRK 2100: Social Work Services and Professional Roles, students may submit an application for admission to the School of Social Work. Application deadlines are January 15, May 15, and October 1 of each year.
Applications are accepted for the Full-time, Extended-study, and Advanced-standing programs beginning October 1 each year. The deadline for Advanced-standing applications is January 15; the priority deadline for Full-time and Extended-study applications is March 15. Applications received after the March 15 priority deadline will be considered if room is available. There is a $45.00 application fee for all MSW Applications.
The Kalamazoo full-time Advanced-standing program and the Grand Rapids Part-time Advanced-standing program begin in the summer II session (late June), and the Full-time and Extended-study programs begin in the fall semester only (early September). Consideration of applications and admissions decisions begin in January and early application is advised. Provisional admission, pending successful completion of the undergraduate degree, may be granted to seniors who graduate between the date of application submission and the start of their program.
