MLK G.O.L.D. Scholarship Application

The MLK G.O.L.D. Scholarship is awarded to Michigan and non-Michigan residents with an annual award amount of $8,000 (renewable up to a total of four years). To view eligibility requirements and renewal criteria, please visit the MLK website

An online application must be submitted to the Office of Admissions by February 15, 2019. Students must be admitted to WMU by the same date, so it is strongly recommended that you apply to WMU by January 15 to allow processing time.

The MLK GOLD scholarship seeks to serve specific populations not historically served by institutions of higher education. Please select as many options that apply to you:
Must attach a letter from the director of the pre-college, migrant, or TRiO Program. TRiO Programs include Education Opportunity Center, GEAR UP, Talent Search, or Upward Bound. PDF and DOC files accepted.

Write a one page essay, up to 500 words, single-spaced, 12-pt font that corresponds to one of the following prompts. Please select the option that corresponds to the question addressed in your essay. (Choose one.) (1) Share your perspective on the impact and value of a college education. In your response, please share your career goal(s) and how college completion would support that/those goal(s). (2) Briefly describe how this scholarship will impact your overall educational goals at WMU. Essay should be attached in the next section.
