NEW COORDINATOR NAMED FOR ALPHA PROGRAM AND RECLAIM THE W

Following an internal search, Western Michigan University has named an experienced administrator and advocate for students as the Alpha Program and Reclaim the W coordinator. 

Ronald Dillard, currently the program manager for the Kalamazoo Promise Scholars program, will take responsibility of the two programs effective July 30. 

“We are excited Mr. Dillard is joining us and bringing his great passion for WMU students, and being a twice alum of WMU will serve the Alpha and Reclaim the W students well,” says Dr. Randy Ott, director of the Center for Academic Success Programs. 

Dillard graduated from WMU in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in English and in 2005 with a master's degree in organizational communication. He was a recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Fellowship in 2003 and 2004. In his five years of work at WMU, Dillard has served in the Financial Aid office and Seita Scholars program.  

“I intend to use all I have learned as a student and staff person at WMU to encourage students to realize their dreams through education,” Ronald said. 

Dillard replaces Walter Malone, who left WMU in July to complete his Ph.D. requirements. Before coming to WMU, Dillard taught within the public schools of Detroit and Battle Creek, Michigan. He lives in Kalamazoo with his wife and two children. 

About Alpha and Reclaim the W

The Alpha Program is designed for incoming first year students who are underprepared academically. Reclaim the W is an effort that cohorts previously academically dismissed students. Both programs are housed within the Center for Academic Success Programs located in Ellsworth hall.
