Paul Nehring is a part-time instructor at Western Michigan University's Gwen Frostic School of Art where he teaches courses in foundation art. He has been working with paint and various sculpture media for more than 40 years. He received a B.F.A. in painting from Western Michigan University and a M.A., also in painting from Western Carolina University.
Nearing began as a painter but in 1990 he started working in wood and learned the skills necessary to begin building traditional and experimental musical instruments. Around the same time, his visual art took a turn towards the three-dimensional and since then his work has alternated between painting, sculpture and music. Nehring has taught part time in the WMU School of Art foundation program since 2000. He also teaches classes at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Kellogg Community College, Kalamazoo College and the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
