- B.F.A., Painting, Western Michigan University
Clara Peeters graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Michigan University's Gwen Frostic School of Art with a BFA in painting and a minor in psychology in December 2018. Her awards include the Robert and Eleanor DeVries Annual Student Art Award and the Harry S. Hefner Excellence in Art Scholarship. In 2018, she was named Presidential Scholar for the Gwen Frostic School of Art. A lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, Clara supported key areas within the Gwen Frostic School of Art throughout her undergraduate years. In addition to her work as a gallery attendant in Exhibitions, Clara assisted in the Foundations area and a variety of Art 1200 classes. In January of 2019, Clara began working part time as Curatorial Assistant for the University Art Collection.
Trained as a painter, Clara’s practice is based in the belief that abstraction alters the limits of communication. Her drawings and painted images center on visualizing and bringing into focus moments that cannot be described with words. Her paintings and drawings have been on view throughout Southwest Michigan, including at the Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph, MI; Fourth Coast Café, Park Trades Center, and Honoré Salon in Kalamazoo, MI; the DeVries Student Art Gallery and the Monroe-Brown Gallery in the Richmond Center for Visual Arts. Her work is in several private collections.
