Michigan Swell is a 101 1/2' long x 8' wide x 14' high blue painted wooden deck structure that seen from the outside is long, linear, and horizontal. It sits on a rise that greets students on their way from their dorms to their classes and functions in a lyrical linear way. Those that venture inside discover an irregularly sloped and slanted deck in the form of a long boat and feel a sense of closed space very different from that seen from the outside. The vertical sloped and slanted deck structure that can be experienced is not unlike that of a high Michigan swell.
