Mark Newport is a multi-media artist currently working in a mixture of textiles and other various "craft" techniques. The theme of his current project is super heroes. While his work was inspired originally by comic books and cartoons from his childhood, the interpretation is much more sophisticated now. Newport creates larger than life sized suits that mimic the outfits worn by superheroes.
Newport earned his B.F.A. degree from the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City Missouri in 1986 and went on to earn an M.F.A. degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1991. He has recently exhibited at the Renwick Museum of American Crafts in Washington, D.C., Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. and at the Lemberg Gallery in Ferndale, Mich.
