Al LaVergne states about his latest experience in Africa, "My Fulbright Mission in Nigeria was to keep a promise to the late great Yoruba woodcarver Lamidi Fakeye to fabricate a steel sculpture at Obafemi Awolowo University. It would serve as a gift for their 50th Anniversary. However the experience turned out to me more of self-discovery in my Mother Land."
