Visiting Artist: Armita Raafat

Armita Raafat received her B.F.A. from Al-Zahra University in Tehran and completed her M.F.A. at the School of Art Institute of Chicago in 2008. She currently lives and works in New York. Her work has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in Chicago, New York, New Jersey, Tehran and Seoul, Korea. Recent solo exhibitions have been presented at "12x12 New Artist/New Work" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2009) and the ThreeWalls Gallery in Chicago (2010). Her work has been featured in several group exhibitions Including "Ah-decadence", Sullivan galleries, Chicago (2008), "Left" Aicon Gallery, New York(2011), "Break/Step" Radiator Gallery, New York (2012), Soho20  Gallery, New York 2013, "Suddenly there: Discovery of the find" Garris & Hahn Gallery,  New York (2013) and "Remains to be Seen" 111 Front street, New York , 2014. Raafat also exhibited with "The Fertile Crescent: Gender, Art and Society," organized by the Institute for Women and Art, Rutgers University in 2012.

Her solo exhibitions have been reviewed in several publications, including Art in America and New City. In 2011 she was featured in the book "Out of Rubble," Published by Charta. Raafat was a 2009 recipient of a swing space residency with Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and a 2014 participant of the Aim program residency (Artists in the Market Place) with the Bronx Museum of the Arts. She currently holds a studio residency with the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York. Raafat is a 2014 recipient of a Peter S. Reed Foundation's grant for sculpture.
