Dr. James Cousins, associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at Western Michigan University, oversees student success, faculty engagement, assessment and curriculum development.
Cousins is the author of over 20 essays, reviews and peer-reviewed articles and is co-author of "Collaboration and the Future of History Education: Preserving the Right to Think and Teach Historically" (Routledge, 2015). His second book, "Horace Holley: Transylvania University and the Making of Liberal Education in the Early American Republic" (University Press of Kentucky, 2016), explores the transformation of higher education in early America. Cousins was a 2012 scholar in residence at Transylvania University, a 2015 WMU Center for the Humanities fellow, and was recently named an American Council on Education Fellow for the 2019-20 academic year.
