The Haworth College of Business needs its best and brightest students to act as leaders for the college and assume responsibility for planning and implementing student activities and events such as Business Bash, community service projects, and mentoring the Business Learning Community through social events. SLAB also acts as an advisory board for the dean and associate deans on student issues.
SLAB provides an opportunity to build leadership skills, network with other high-performing students and get involved with making important decisions for the college. SLAB meets twice each month on Tuesdays from 5 - 6:30 p.m. and is led by its elected officers (eboard), allowing students to gain important leadership and managerial experience through hands-on activities that enhance the student experience.
Students in the top 5 percent of each class are invited to apply for membership in the Haworth College of Business Student Leadership Advisory Board. The application deadline is January 31. Students are inducted in April of each year. To apply, students submit a current resume, an unofficial transcript, and the application form.
Shortly after the deadline date, a team of graduating students, SLAB advisors and representatives from the dean’s office review applications and select those students with demonstrated, significant academic and leadership abilities. As early as March, the new induction class begins attending SLAB meetings and participating in SLAB events. At a swearing in ceremony in the late spring, the graduating SLAB students are honored and the new SLAB members are formally initiated and invited to participate in planning activities for the next academic year.
To maintain membership in SLAB, students agree to continue to achieve a 3.0 GPA average and attend all SLAB bi-weekly meetings plus volunteer on at least one event each semester.
