This is a course in comparative sociology of social change and development in Non-Western societies and their relationships with the West in the context of globalization. The course will explore theories of social change and development, and see how they apply to the studies of non-Western civilizations, cultures, and countries. In particular, we will look at how theories and empirical studies present the interplay between economy, polity, and culture in the process of social change, from modernization to globalization. This course satisfies WMU Essential Studies Level 3: Connections - Global Perspectives Course Category.
