Dr. Jocelyn Steinke is a professor in the School of Communication at Western Michigan University and holds a joint appointment with the Department of Gender and Women's Studies. Her research focuses on the influence of media images of science and scientists on students' perceptions of science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.

Steinke's research also examines the influence of professional female scientists' perceptions of workplace climate and their negotiation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics identities. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and published a variety of national and international journals including:
