Safety Precautions

Video of Safe Dining on Campus at Western Michigan University

WMU Dining Services, in compliance with the Oct. 29, 2020 Gatherings and Face Masks Epidemic Order, is asking students and guests paying with cash or credit card to submit their name and phone number when entering the Dining Centers. Students who use their meal plan or Dining Dollars are not required to provide any additional information since their name is already recorded and time stamped by swiping their Bronco Card.

WMU Dining Safe Service Precautions

Dining Services is intentional about maintaining a safe dining environment for the campus community. The following precautionary procedures are in place:

  • Daily health screening of all Dining employees.
  • Face masks worn by all Dining employees; guests are required to wear face coverings in all dining locations, except when seated and eating. Guests may ask to speak to the manager at the welcome desk if they do not have a face mask or are not medically able to wear a face covering so arrangements are made to safely serve the guest.
  • Physical distancing of 6' guidelines by guests with reminders posted throughout serving areas, dining areas and lobbies; employees observe physical distancing during shifts and breaks.
  •  Occupancy limits in dining locations to allow physical distancing to occur.
  •  Serving or plating all choices (eliminating buffet style and self-service stations).
  • Cleaning and disinfection processes conducted three times daily, to include additional diligent staff training on infection prevention protocols.

Effective Fall 2020:

  • In-person dining areas set up to allow 6' distancing between tables and a reduction of 50% of seating from the established seating plan.

  • Online ordering and delivery of meals to students residing on campus in COVID-19 isolation or quarantine rooms.

  • Grab'n Go options for lunch, snack and dinner.

  • Development of an online carryout and pick-up service to help minimize direct person-to-person contact.
