Student Employment

Each year, the Seita Scholars Program has a number of student employment opportunities for Seita Scholars. Hiring for most positions occurs during the spring semester, with applications due in early February. Seita Scholars can watch their Western Michigan University email for information about upcoming employment opportunities or reach out to their campus coach for updated information.

Peer coordinator

Application requirements: Completed universal student application, two letters of reference, cover letter and resume should be submitted in person at the Seita Scholars office, attention to Ronicka Hamilton.
Description: Peer coordinators work closely with Seita Scholars staff to assist the incoming cohort of Seita Scholars transition to Western Michigan University. They are responsible for outreach to incoming students prior to Orientation, the planning and implementation of the Summer Early Transition (SET) Week in July, serving as co-instructors for the First-Year Seminar Course and the Seita Scholars holistic course, and general office duties in the Seita Scholars office. Specific duties include scheduling and implementing events (including preparing a budget, ordering supplies and scheduling speakers), assisting in course planning and grading for FYS, serving as mentors to students, and other duties as assigned. The position begins at the conclusion of the spring semester and continues through the academic year (fall and spring semester). Students must maintain a 2.7 semester and cumulative GPA.

Seita Scholars ambassador

Description: The Seita Scholars ambassador serves as a liaison between the students in the program and Seita Scholars staff, and provides a student voice on programming. The ambassadors are responsible for coordinating events both in and out of the office, performing office tasks as assigned, answering phones, filing and other duties as assigned. This position is year round and requires that students maintain a minimum 2.7 semester and cumulative GPA.

Center for Fostering success ambassador

Description: The Center for Fostering Success ambassador serves as a liaison between the students in the program and the Center for Fostering Success staff, and provides a student voice on programming and activities through the Center for Fostering Success. The ambassadors are responsible for coordinating events both in and out of the office, speaking at events on and off campus, performing office tasks as assigned, answering phones, filing and other duties as assigned. This position is year round and requires that students maintain a minimum 2.7 semester and cumulative GPA.

myoi student coordinator

Application requirements: Completed universal student application, unofficial transcript, resume, cover letter and two letters of recommendation (at least one of which must come from an MYOI Coordinator) should be submitted via email or in person to LaToya McCants.
Description: The MYOI Student Coordinator must have 1-2 years of prior participation with the MYOI Youth Board. The Student Coordinator will assist in planning and facilitating MYOI meetings, student outreach, and offsite activities, as well as performing office tasks, answering phones, filing and other duties as assigned. This position is year round and requires that students maintain a minimum 2.7 semester and cumulative GPA.

Assistant SET Week coordinator

Description: Assistant SET Week coordinators are responsible for assisting the SET Week coordinators with activities during SET Week. This includes conducting students to workshops, staying in the residence hall during SET Week to support students, participating in activities and other duties as assigned. Students will receive a stipend for the week, and are responsible to attend one additional training in June. Students must be in good academic standing and maintain a 2.0 semester and cumulative GPA. 

Receptionist

Description: Student receptionists are responsible for answering phones, collecting mail, answering questions, conducting office tours and other duties as assigned. Students must be in good academic standing and maintain a 2.0 semester and cumulative GPA.

Computer technician

Description: Computer technicians assist with the maintenance of office computer and student laptops, which includes reformatting laptops after they are loaned out to students. Students must be in good academic standing and maintain a 2.0 semester and cumulative GPA.
