Kalani Gates is a second-year student in the clinical psychology Ph.D. program in the department of psychology at Western Michigan University. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Gates is a graduate research assistant in the Child Maltreatment and Injury Prevention Lab directed by Dr. Amy Damashek, he is most interested in the expansion of therapeutic processes for anxiety and depression, particularly for minorities and minority youth via computerized interventions. Prior to attending graduate school, Kalani worked with children and adolescents diagnosed with behavioral and developmental disorders and conducted research related to dating violence among adolescents in Hawai’i. Outside of academics, he enjoys cooking, dancing, going to the beach, and bodybuilding.
