Webinars Offered

In addition to telehealth options for established individual and couples clients, Counseling Services providers are offering free educational webinars for all WMU students. These are intended for students who want to learn about caring for their own well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional workshops will be added as the situation changes.

Registering is easy.

  3. Check the name of the webinar you choose.

Once you've registered for a webinar, you'll be sent an email invitation with a link to join about a half-hour before the webinar begins.

Students are arriving on campus following one of the most eventful summers of a lifetime. Join Dr. Danielle W. Standish as she leads a discussion on surviving and thriving during these unprecedented times. Topics of discussion will include:

Lonely Together: Managing Social Anxiety in a New Place, at a Strange Time

People who experience social anxiety can often feel lonely and isolated, but they are hardly alone.  Over 40% of Americans (i.e. most of the people around you today) report experiencing elevated levels of social anxiety or describe themselves as shy, and a fear of others' judgement is the driving force behind the most common fear in America: public speaking. Join us for a brief presentation centered on:

  • Developing strategies for managing social anxiety and connecting with others, even in the time of COVID.  

*While conversation will be welcome, you will not be expected to participate directly.  Spectators welcome.

Supporting Anxious People in the Time of COVID-19

We are in the midst of a very unpredictable time, and many people are understandably worried.  If you are finding yourself feeling anxious about other people's anxiety, we would like to help.  This 30-60 minute workshop will focus on improving our understanding of how anxiety functions, and how we can be prepared to meet the needs of the anxious people we care about.

  • Discussion of how stress and anxiety affect people differently in our current situation
  • Providing guidance for how we might go about supporting the stressed people in our lives 
  • Clarifying expectations and giving specific suggestions for what we can do to help

Adjustment to College Life: Navigating the Campus System

Adjusting to life on a college campus, making independent decisions while attempting to focus on managing classes and assignments can be overwhelming. You might feel like you are alone but you are not. Join the webinar for support as we discuss ways for you to become familiar with the University and its various departments, and the resources and individuals that can assist you in navigating the campus system. You'll learn ways to develop a support system to empower you to have a positive learning experience and assist you in becoming academically successful. Topics of discussion will include:

  • Ways to become familiar with the campus system and the variety of resources available
  • Building a support network at WMU
