My involvement in health began as a biology science teacher in high school in Nigeria. I travelled to the US to obtain my Bachelor’s and master’s degree in Public health from Western Illinois University, Macomb. I had a work stint that led me to the World Health Organization where I was a consultant in Public Health in the African region. I then followed by obtaining my doctorate from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. My work in the community principally focuses on Substance Use disorder. As Director of the Detroit Bureau of Substance Abuse, I had extensive background in chemical dependency prevention, intervention and treatment. My area of research and grantsmanship where I was funded for more than $5 million is chemical dependency prevention in adolescents.
I am a very good singer and an excellent composer. I was in my high school choir as a featured singer and a soloist. I later became a choir director who composed excellent songs for the choir and my church during my community college education.
