Returning students get the advantage of picking their specific room for next fall. To sign up, use the direct housing portal link or go to GoWMU and under the My Self Service section on the left choose the link "Residence Life Housing." As you move through the screens, you’ll pick your hall and then your room from a floor diagram.
Follow the schedule for when to choose your room.
- Same room: Sign-up is 10 a.m. Jan. 28 to 30, 2019
- Same hall: Sign-up is 10 a.m. Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, 2019
- Any hall: Sign-up starts at 10 a.m. Feb. 4, 2019, ongoing
- Summer housing: Sign-up begins March 15, 2019
Single rooms are available in all halls except Western Heights and Shilling Hall. Valley single rooms are scattered throughout each hall, but second Ackley, third Britton and sixth Harvey are returner-only floors with all single rooms. Students interested in a single can choose their specific room during the returner sign up process. Zimmerman Hall is all single rooms.
- Sign-up is 10 a.m. Jan. 28 to 30, 2019 for your current single
- Sign up starting 10 a.m. Feb. 4, 2019 for a single in any hall
How do I get the GPA discount?
If you select a single room for fall 2019, we’ll automatically check your spring GPA. If your cumulative GPA is 3.0 or higher at the end of spring semester, you get your single room at the double room rate. Students must have sophomore status or higher at the start of fall 2019 to be eligible.
Call or come the Residence Life office if you want to stay or move into a learning community. Learning community spaces are reserved, so they don’t automatically show up in the sign up system. Follow the same room, different room and any hall schedule for when you can sign up. Single rooms are available in most learning communities.
Canceling your contract
Completing a housing contract for fall 2019 means entering into a legally binding agreement with WMU. If you change your mind and cancel, a cancellation fee will apply.
|Cancel through May 1||$300|
|Cancel May 2 through July 31||$400|
|Cancel Aug. 1 through 5 p.m. of last business day before the halls open||$500|
You will not be able to hold a space in the online sign up system without completing a housing contract. If you’re not sure about your housing plans, we recommend waiting to sign up.
You can both sign up for the same room, or one person can “pull” in the other as a roommate to save the space. The second person then gets an email to their WMU account to accept or decline the invite.
Triples and Quads
The best way to claim a triple is for all three students to sign up at the same time choosing beds A, B and C in the same room. Be aware you won’t be able to see who’s already in the room in case two groups are signing up for the same triple simultaneously.
If four people want a quad in Draper/Siedschlag and Burnhams:
- log on individually and pick the two rooms that make up a quad, or
- two people pick a room that makes a quad and pull in the others as roommates.
Like with triples, you won’t be able to see who’s already in the room in case two groups are signing up for the same room simultaneously.
