General summary

Identifies, verifies, edits and creates comprehensive and complex bibliographic records using Library of Congress classification, subject headings and Resource Description Access cataloging rules for enhanced copy cataloging of various library resources.

Major duties

  • Produces comprehensive bibliographic records, for inclusion in local and international databases, using standard classification and subject headings.
  • Uses bibliographic, cataloging software to locate, edit and export records.
  • Enhances records found in cataloging utilities to meet local standards.
  • Uses the integrated library management system for importing and managing enhanced records in the internal library catalog.
  • Creates original catalog records for special format materials, such as maps, manuscripts, theses and dissertations.
  • Maintains and applies a thorough working knowledge or current cataloging rules and changes.
  • Participates in department-wide projects.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Associate’s degree or two years’ college coursework in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year’s relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets and databases.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
