General summary

Plans, coordinates and implements various fitness and wellness programs for faculty, staff and students.

Major duties

  • Develops and administers programs aimed at improving employee and student health and well-being.
  • Manages various recreation activities including, but not limited to, group fitness programs, personal training services and aquatics.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student employees, fitness specialists, exercise instructors, interns and program associates.
  • Coordinates, creates and updates the marketing, social media, website for students and employee wellness programming outreach.
  • Provides fitness education through newsletters, presentations and other outreach methods.
  • Researches and implements national, industry and local guidelines related to risk management prevention and protocols to minimize the risk of legal liability to the University.
  • Researches industry trends and assesses new and current programming. Makes recommendations for additions and modifications in programs and services to best meet client needs, including special populations.
  • Makes purchase and budget recommendations for programming and employee compensation for fitness programs and services.
  • Updates website and manages marketing and social media outreach.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.

Required other

  • ACSM or related national health/fitness certification.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
  • Bloodborne pathogen certification.
  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekend and holiday rotation.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
